Event Description :: Fuku-go  (compulsory kata and kumite)

Fuku-go is a relatively new event created to challenge the karate-ka athlete in kata and kumite. Each elimination alternates between kata and kumite rounds.

Fuku-go is divided into two categories: Men and Women

Ki-tei, a compulsory form created by Sensei Nishiyama, is performed simultaneously by two competitors. One competitor is designated Aka (red color) and the other Shiro (white color). At the conclusion of the kata demonstration, judge will indicate Aka or Shiro the winner by raising a red or white flag. There are five judges so there is never a tie.

  • Penalties

All of the penalties listed for Kata event apply.
Any deviation from the strict Ki-tei form will result in a penalty.

  • Kumite

Competitors who advance past the Kata elimination proceed to a kumite round. The rules of kumite are the same as those listed for the Kumite event.
