Event Description :: Synchronized Kata (team kata)

A synchronized kata team has three members. During eliminations, the team performs a kata in unison, demonstrating all the best elements of kata. Scoring is based on all basic points for kata in addition to the level of synchronization. Any penalties incurred by a team member are applied to the whole team. During the final round, in addition to performing a synchronized kata, each team must perform application from that kata.

  • Rules of application

One team member takes the role of demonstrator, or defense, and the other two team members take the role of attackers, or offense.
Offense must make four attacks.
The demonstrator must use the exact initial kata technique, but may follow with additional technique(s) not in the kata.
At least one attack must involve two persons making a simultaneous assault, or two persons making a consecutive and continuous attack.
In a continuous attack, the second person must begin before the attack by the first person is completed.
In a continuous attack, the first defensive technique must conform to the kata, but the technique used against the second attacker my deviate from the kata.

  • Scoring

Scoring is based on all the basic points for kata in addition to the level of the synchronization during the elimination round. Mastery and skill points are added during the final round.

  • Penalties

All the penalties for individual kata apply to synchronized kata with these additions:
Loss of synchronization
Error of application
Unrealistic technique during application
